Digital Prototypes - Sharing & Feedback

This online session is your opportunity to learn about the design thinking that goes into making public art and add your input to the creative process.

Artist and designer Sam Williams will present models created with 3D software that she has developed from ideas generated in River/ Flow/ Connect workshops with local people in Kempston. Sam’s challenge is to turn imaginative and sometimes whimsical ideas, into attractive artworks that will actually work in practice.

Looking at the 3D designs that Sam has created , we’ll think hard about practical issues involved in making the artworks, such as function, context, scale and materials.

The session will help refine and improve the ideas for the next exciting stage of the project, where working prototypes will be made to be shared with the wider public on the riverside as part of a Family Fun Day on Saturday 26th July.

What is River/ Flow/ Connect?

River/Flow/Connect is a Bedford Creative Arts project designed to deepen community engagement with the River Great Ouse in Kempston, Queen’s Park, Kingsbrook & Cauldwell, and Great Denham. Through artistic installations and creative activities, the project invites residents to connect with the river on their doorstep, fostering a sense of place and shared experience.

This long-term project aims to install a series of community co-commissioned, functional sculptures along the river that celebrate the community’s relationship with the River Great Ouse and encourage recreation along the riverbank.

These workshops feed into a series of community co-design events exploring how public art can help local people feel more connected to the river.
